Open to educators and business professionals from all levels: Accredited courses that are offered for graduate, CEU and Act 48 credit toward professional and personal growth. Each of the 3-credit courses listed below is experiential, non-confrontational, fun and will allow you to leave with a greater knowledge that you will find to be relevant and useful for both your professional and personal life. Activating Diversity Awareness: Creating Positive Change

Course Description

This course is specifically designed as a follow-up to Diversity Awareness in Education: A New Perspective for a Changing Classroom and Being an Ally: Confronting Homophobia in the Classroom. Although not required, it is highly recommended that those courses be taken first. Workshop participants should enter this course possessing a comprehensive understanding of “unearned privilege; white racial identity; and heterosexism”. Course participants will leave with the knowledge and skills necessary to create constructive educational and social change on a scale that can extend beyond the classroom as it pertains to all facets of diversity awareness.

Participants will

  • Attain an expanded knowledge of racial identity in America.
  • Differentiate the components of a functional vs. dysfunctional organizational system in relation to diversity initiatives.
  • Develop a vision of a positive school community and society through social action.
  • Design the necessary steps for creating positive social change in your educational community beyond the classroom.
  • Recommend a personal plan of action for creating positive social change in your school community as it relates to diversity.
