Diversity Awareness in Communication: Healthy Dialogue & Conflict Resolution

Course Description

This course is entitled "Healthy Conflict Resolution: Communication With Diverse Populations" when scheduled at The Learning Institute at St. Joseph's University
The fear of conflict and an inability to initiate healthy dialogue are frequently the reason why diversity initiatives fail in schools. This course is designed to introduce educators to the concepts of initiating healthy dialogue and utilizing conflict resolution strategies as they directly relate to the broad topic of diversity. Subsequently, participants will complete this course confidently equipped with skills and strategies to make the classroom and their personal lives an environment eager for peaceful and productive outcomes.

Participants will

  • Understand conflict as being both positive and negative.

  • Complete a personal assessment and participate in self-assessing your own individual styles, sources and responses to conflict.

  • Understand the importance of active listening in conflict resolution and in educational practice.

  • Learn the process of using varied strategies in resolving conflict.

  • Develop an action plan for use in each participant’s educational discipline.
